Wisbech Players

The Wisbech Players is an amateur theatre group based in the North Cambridgeshire town, often referred to as ‘The capital of the Fens’ from which the Society takes its name. Founded in 1954 the Society has a reputation for putting on high quality theatrical productions for the benefit of audiences mainly in Wisbech and the surrounding area. For a number of years now performances have taken place in the town’s historic Angles Theatre, one of the oldest Georgian theatres in the country. The Society is run by an elected committee who choose the plays to be performed, usually in conjunction with a prospective director. Normally there are two productions per year, in the spring and autumn. The Players aim to provide a broadly based selection of productions in order to cater for differing tastes. Past productions have ranged from well known TV comedies such as ‘Are you being Served’to the classic ‘Calander Girls’. We also perform the odd farce and whodunnit for good measure! The society is affiliated to the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA), whose representatives attend productions in order to review the standard of presentation. Another affiliation is with Fenland Arts. This organisation has given the society financial assistance by the way of grants in certain years. The Wisbech Players encourage members of the public to become Patrons of the Society. There is an annual fee and Patrons get priority booking plus an invitation to the ever popular ‘Patrons Evening’ at which they are entertained by the Players. Food and drink is provided also and everyone has a very pleasant evening. New members are always welcome. We are pleased to see new talent, whether their interest is acting, directing, set building or anything else needed to put on first class performances, please contact us through this site if you would like to become involved. We rely upon the support of the Wisbech theatre going public. So look out for our coming productions on the ‘Coming Up’ page and bring your friends!
